  • Steve, this is an honest and open reflection of your own personal PLN experience. It certainly doesn’t have to revolve around Twitter or G+. I love that you kept track of the comment history via that Google Doc – […]

  • Jackie, your tenacity to reach out to others is super impressive. I thought you were going to reflect only on your Twitter journey, but to spend the time and effort to reach out and hand-pick others in similar […]

  • I’ve heard many people state how they’ve had to drop one or more social media platforms as they proved too distracting. Interesting that it was Twitter and IG for you, and I’m curious if you are on FB and if you […]

  • Great reflection piece, and I think this is a powerful point you’ve made – that there are often talented people right there in your school that may have a lot to offer. Yet, if they’re hidden within teams and […]

  • HI Kim – it sounds like this project will have wider implications for you, your teachers and the students across the board.

In regards to this statement: “After the first few lessons the teachers were able to […]

I think this is a powerful reflection and helps to sum up the Coetail and distance learning experience: “It is amazing how school takes over yet I know that when I reach out the help, information, ideas out there […]

Steve, I think you have your work cut out for you with this project. From your previous coursework, I have no doubt you’ll put all your efforts into its success. Just keep in mind this is a beast of a project and you’ll need the help of your Tech Dept, the Tech Coordinator/Integrator, admin and teachers who can help be mentors to others. It’ll…[Read more]

Stephane, this is such a well-composed final project – I think I’ll have to share it! Your idea is solidified, ambitious and will result in a positive and wide-reaching impact on the community. The two paths students may take looks like it’s well thought out and will result in giving students choice and risk-taking opportunities. I agree that…[Read more]

Steve, I have to chuckle at this final project because I have no choice but to both cringe at the green, but pat you on the back for thoroughly defending your choice. Assessing your design decisions is such a subjective process for me! I provided some feedback on your third post about your site – I’m assuming you saw that but felt otherwise at…[Read more]

I love that you dove right in and created this video! I assume the process of doing so yourself, has allowed you to better understand the pitfalls students may experience. Small things like using a mic, background noise, pace, etc all are things that are often overlooked that you integrated with ease. Did you enjoy using Spark?

Perhaps we’re coming to the tail end of infographics as a stand-alone medium. Graphical data is now so pervasive in society that what was once a unique form of conveying data is now woven into what we do day to day. Think about things like the Health or Activity apps on IOS… how have they changed the way we approach fitness. Does the quick…[Read more]

As a photographer, I really love that you’re exposing your students to the ideas of reading pictures. In an age where everyone has a camera at nearly all times, and moments are captured and shared in real-time, it’s highly valuable to dig deeper with images. Students are now growing up with Instagram, Snap Chat, FB, etc as their primary source of…[Read more]

You own a painting business? How fascinating to hear about how all of our paths have taken before entering education! Your Google Sites page is looking good, but you may want to double check your links – the link on your about page for, ” I grew up living abroad and in the U.S.” isn’t working.

In terms of photo organization – do you happen to use…[Read more]

I’m so glad to see you jump right in, Jackie! I hope you found it to be a fun experience (or am I just super geeky?). A cup of coffee, some good music, and have at it…

I definitely prefer the cleaner design to the mint green background of your original. I’d love to see you attempt an About page – if you take Valerie’s tips into consideration…[Read more]

Another interesting component to the issue of screen time is to ask – where are we spending our screen time? How have mobile devices shifted our screen time? How is designing for a computer’s browser different than designing for a mobile browser or app? Great to see you start to delve into the heat-maps and understand how simple tweaks can greatly…[Read more]

Great post to kick off course 3, Brendon, and I’m glad to see you reflecting on other sites within your subject area. This will help provide inspiration and relevance as you begin to delve into redesigning your own site. As you’ve noted, you’re seeing some similar design elements that grab the eye – large images, video loops in the header, bold…[Read more]

    Hi Lisa,

First off, please know that I’m here to help.

Part of the frustration is stemming from the fact that WordPress is a bit of a geeky tool that does take some time to master (or even get familiar with). It’s definitely not your fault. It can be a picky beast – themes, plug-ins, tags, categories, HTML formatting, etc, etc – it’s enough…[Read more]

You’re off to a great start, Michelle! I give you credit for working while on holiday! Just please know that you can take some time for yourself and double up a week later so you can have some time to enjoy relaxing.

Glad to see you use what’s at your fingertips to consider design (with the brochures). It shows how design is everywhere and…[Read more]

Hi Stephane – welcome back to Course 3. I’m glad to see you show examples of your designs and presentations throughout the years. Perhaps you can share additional detail about how you’d choose to redesign your blog. Maybe some screenshots and/or before/after photos to demonstrate the changes in more detail?

I’m looking forward to seeing what…[Read more]

    • Hi Brandon,
Thanks for this honest feedback. I’ll try to give more details about the choices I made to redesign my blog, this is clearly missing in my post.

You’re off to a good start, Steve. And things like Presentation Zen can provide further ideas – example – putting one photo per slide to better focus ideas. All too often we think we need written words/bullets next to images when in actuality, much of what we write can be conveyed verbally. And just to provide a small piece of feedback – be…[Read more]
