    Christy,
I know what you mean about the power of Inforgraphics. It’s so important to give students the choice on how they want to present their ideas and findings. As the tech integrator at my school, it also then becomes an issue of grading content vs grading the tool… does that make sense? They may make a fantastic infographic but does it say…[Read more]

Thanks!! The parent presentation went well. I definitely feel more confident presenting now than I did a year ago. We will also recycle this presentation during our Digital Citizenship Week in November.

I have this week off so yes, let’s connect! Thank you again for your support – much appreciated.

  • Throughout this course, I have been inspired greatly from other students in this class; namely @mschristymartin and @catejarvis.  Because of a post by Christy, I updated my COETAIL website to look more clean and […]

  • I was promised a 15-minute time frame if I created an infographic from a template in a program called Piktograph… flash forward an hour and a half and I was still fiddling with the creation of my first i […]

    • Hi Claire,

I love that infographic! I’ve used piktograph a couple of times. I like the finished products, but they do take time.

How did your parent presentation go? That’s a great parent coffee topic for this time of year.

I look forward to connecting very soon — this week? Let’s make it happen! 🙂

    Hi Kelly,
Thanks for the recommendation with Class Dojo. I have heard many good things about this tool. I actually don’t have my own class but it is something I would look into if I did.

I know, I need to look at my own COETAIL website. It needs some work, including a photo. I think this will be my next assignment!

As for the videos, I use a…[Read more]

  • Finally, I watched ‘Presentation Zen’ – albeit a bit late but the timing was perfect. I am set to give a presentation to parents about keeping students safe online and I just wasn’t interested in my typical prese […]

    • Claire,
You mentioned how much you love when projects correspond to your work life because they feel more meaningful and engaging. I have felt the same way as I’ve worked through my COETAIL courses, and it gives me a greater appreciation for the importance of making learning relevant to my students’ lives. (http://www.edutopia.org/neuroscience-brain-based-learning-relevance-improves-engagement) As educators we may overlook that aspect of lesson planning, but now that I’m a student again I realize how vital it is to feel that what you are learning has some connection to your life or work. I also appreciated the way you are structuring your faculty meeting to equip teachers with both the skills to create videos, but also the perspective of the work they are asking their students to do. I think it’s important for teachers to place ourselves in the shoes of our students every now and then to gain an appreciation for the work they put into the tasks we assign. Thanks for highlighting this new perspective.

Thanks Rob, I appreciate the feedback and isn’t the saying ‘hindsight is 20/20 vision’? I like the Padlet as an extra resource idea as well. However, it might just be too painful to ‘re-do’. Okay, very dramatic, I think it is the weather outside. Thank you again!

Thanks Leah! It’s funny you say that about the Padlet because there is one teacher who is now using Padlet who was dead against it last year. I was like… mmmmm huh – I see you!

A more familiar tool would have been definitely more effective but that also makes me feel like a balloon that has a slow leak as slowly falls to the ground. Okay, a…[Read more]

    Hi Cynthia,
I enjoyed reading your blog post very much. I have been reading several people’s comments on keeping it simple but your reference to the ‘bokeh’ effect immediately made sense to me. I consider myself an amateur photographer and as soon as I saw the image on the Wikipedia page (excuse the HUGE pun that is about to fall upon you); it…[Read more]

    • Claire, I have KISS on my bulletin board, whenever it gets all too crazy and I start to become the bokeh, I just look at that and it all comes into focus again, and I remember what really matters. I am glad you liked my post, would love to see some of your photos. If you are on flickr, we can perhaps connect?…[Read more]

    Cate,
I LOVED your ‘Parent Technology Workshops’ presentation – very inspiring! I need to create and give a presentation to parents about keeping kids safe online within the next week so I am definitely taking notes regarding your presentation.

My mind keeps going back to two images, the diving into apps and the one with the serene lake. It’s…[Read more]

Thanks for the positive feedback. To be honest I was worried that it was too bare (however the feedback has been positive). For me this was a complete jump into a new style as I was (am) an extremely bland presentation maker, using it just as a reference for myself and not for the audience. When I did this unit it made me realise that this…[Read more]

    Christy,
I think your new site looks very simple and clean – well done!

The Personal Profile widget is new to me – I will have to check that out. The widget is very easy for the eye to navigate – I like that it has the icons instead of the links; much cleaner. Also, your description is short and sweet. Great photo too! When I joined Twitter…[Read more]
