    Hi Ange!

All I can say is WOW! I love the way that you curated your PLN connections via Storify. I have only seen it used with Tweets, and I am super impressed that it can also embed blogs and it comes out looking pretty sharp!

Hmm, I think we should require all Coetail grads to curate their Coetail Community Engagement via Storify. It…[Read more]

    • Thanks Vivian! I was trying to think of a way to highlight my community involvement while still keeping all of the links alive – Storify was perfect! It doesn’t embed all that well and looks better on the storify page (I actually love the mobile interface) but it ended up working really well! No worries about the missed Hangout opportunity – it…[Read more]

    Hi Philip

I love how you made your DPLN eventually your APLN. That’s what I’ve been doing all along too. After I make “friends” with someone online, it’s natural that we want to meet face2face eventually. There are a number of “Tweeps” that live near me. One day, we all got together to plan a joint Makerfaire weekend event (computer…[Read more]

I love the fact that they are cheesy! Don’t stop!

Ange Molony—Youtube star! (When you start making your millions of dollars, don’t forget about your humble beginnings here.)

Watch out @jutecht you’ve got competition and she’s actually funny! 😉

Great post! Using yourself as an example of a type of ‘invasion of privacy’ was perfect for this digital conversation. I have found that your current profile picture and your cover photo are ‘public’ on facebook. Once you change to a new profile pic or cover photo, you have to go in to those specific pictures and change their setting or they will…[Read more]

    • Thanks for the heads up on managing the pics in facebook!! I knew you could do that, but just hadn’t figured out how… And, I’m still working on getting my public face just right online. The kid with fist meme is a terrific example of all of this too. I recently asked a student in the middle of a presentation if the image they were showing…[Read more]

    Hey Jeff @jutecht

You replied on the crosspost of this on my own bloghome. I thought I would reply here at the “Coaches” since more people pass thru here 🙂

The #CoetailChat happens 3 or 4 am for you in the USA, so we completely understand. No worries!

The next time you pass through the “Coetail Community Engagement” rubric…[Read more]

@jutecht: Thanks for that takeaway, “One person’s blabber is another person’s lesson plan.” That will be my inspiration to continue well beyond my COETAIL!

@jutecht: I’d never investigated the Talk Page (I am a Wiki novice and all), but I’m intrigued to deepen my understanding. I loved the article about how it’s better than a history textbook. I’m lucky to teach 2nd grade without a textbook in sight! Thanks for all the resources–you have made my learning journey far less daunting!

@ikrips: Thanks so much for sharing your insights. I haven’t heard @jutecht discuss this topic in person, but he has provided us with a number of links in the comment section. I’m glad this change is working well with your students and I think the IB History class has some interesting work on the horizon! What an amazing way to bring history to…[Read more]

    Dear Angela,

I made the same 180 after listening to Jeff Utecht (@jutecht) speak about it at the Learning2Asia conference last year. Before that I was vehemently anti-Wikipedia; in fact, I had banned its use in my classroom. I remember Jeff pointing out that we tend to believe that Wikipedia is what it was in the beginning – fledgling and…[Read more]

    Hi Philip

Thank you for your honesty and your authenticity. I’ve been a on-going observer of you for the past year or so. I’ve sensed your ambivalence. I’ve heard your questioning. Every time I see that “egg” avatar of yours on Twitter, it literally shouts out to me what you’re going through 😉

At the end of the day, there is more to…[Read more]

    • Vivian! Wonderful, helpful, kind as always! I have a lot to say, but most of it will have to wait for my post later in the week. I updated this post to reflect your comment.

You’ve stirred some great conversations with this post @adurham It’s similar in a way to conversation revolving around digital/ebooks vs physical books. (especially in regards to our ability to remember what we write/read).

I think @jutecht would agree that it’s an exciting time we live in, knowing that we’re essentially at the heart of a time…[Read more]

I have been flirting with blogging in my humanities class. I love the idea that students would care more about the online method of “essay writing” than the traditional essay. At Learning2 last year @jutecht mentioned using Flipboard and Wikipedia as ways for students to take ownership and be responsible for curating and providing knowledge to…[Read more]

    • Hi Bradley – I will pass that on as the Humanities Department is always looking for new ways to use Blogs and Tech! Thank you very much! This teacher is also using FlipBoard with his IB pupils and this has allowed them to add Web pieces whilst on their mobiles – please let me know how it goes if you use it. We are finding are real difference in…[Read more]

    Hi @jutecht
Thanks so much to stopping by. I think in schools we do too much of building unnecessary structures over the top of what we already do. If we look at networks, the question should be how do we integrate into parent’s life rather than vice versa.

Thanks for posting the link to Jocelyn’s book. It’s her first “pingback”! She just recently started hearing positive things about her book from strangers and she’s incredibly encouraged. Before, it was just her school and people we knew, so we were never sure if people were just being “polite” or if they genuinely liked her work, when they…[Read more]

Good questions! I’m not a fan of homework either, but I’m a primary school teacher. I didn’t have homework until I was 12 years old, so I can feel confident that primary students won’t be jeopardized if they don’t have homework.

The issue gets a bit more murky for me when it comes to secondary school students. It’s cool to hear a secondary…[Read more]

Cool Jeff! @jutecht Are you doing some substitute teaching?! The kids are in for a treat 😉 Wish you were my substitute teacher when I was a student…

    • I’m putting in my application we’ll see if they let me be a substitute. You know because I need something less to do. 🙂
