  • Hi Dan,
Just reading your post now and as I start finishing up my own posts for the course, I see that I’m not the only one that is bouncing neither here or there with thoughts on what to write about. I’ve made […]

    Hi Sitwat,
I’ve been reading your post for the last week. I was wondering what sort of tools you would use to collaborate between another teacher. Would this school or teacher be in the same similar time zone? What will you use to introduce or grab the student’s attention for this inquiry unit? I think its great that this is more of a PBL unit. I…[Read more]

    Hi Erin,
Last year I started using SeeSaw in the elementary school. The students would choose their best work and then we created a folder that was labeled “Student Led Conferece” Students were then able to use this folder for PTC nights. This year, we are going to expand our use beyond the classroom. I would like to share the class feed with…[Read more]

    Hi Jennifer,
You are certainly right there are a TON of apps to choose from for various purposes. We are also about to introduce iPads into each classroom next year. This is the first time teachers will have their own iPad in the classrooms. As we are not yet a 1:1 model, the iPads were intended for learning centers and more leveled reading. My…[Read more]

    Hi Michelle,
You discussed some great ideas there. Coming to the end of the year, I am starting to think of how I can better integrate technology in my school, specifically in the ES. I think having flipped learning stations is a great idea. Also the idea that sending parents an introduction to Technology Integration at the school through our…[Read more]

    Hi Erin,
Been enjoying your blog posts to my email. Thanks. So like you I have to find a way, and I think it’s great that you had the students choose what outlet they wanted to communicate the project. Not only is it another way to communicate, but once uploaded to Seesaw, for this particular project, perhaps parents can be reassured that the…[Read more]

    Hi Megan,
Your post has inspired me to plan an integrated unit using Scratch jr. for a narrative with grade 1. I had been hesitant to do so because some of the teachers feel they do not have enough time to learn. When I initially sat down to talk about ideas with the teacher, she then said to me “I think they already know this”, so we will be…[Read more]

    • Hi Pim,
I’m so glad you found my post helpful. I think your first graders will find it a great way to show their learning. I also have used Scratch as a class to retell stories as well and have students create this to really work on beginning, middle and end of stories which I know can be challenging for our younger writers to really have a true s…[Read more]

    Hi Ken,
I think your idea to include some videos into your presentations where appropriate will also make your presentations stick better in one’s mind. In my post, I wrote about an administrator who had a cringeworthy presentation deck that was trying to explain evacuation drills to us. I wonder if he could have summed the whole 24 slide deck…[Read more]

    Hi Michelle,
Thank you for your ideas and resources. I work at a school where there are quite few English Language Learners so using the The Story Spine will really help the students create the content they need and in the sequence that would make sense. For the younger students that are on iPads, I have recommended a couple apps that may help…[Read more]

    Hi Laura,
Your “jigsaw” is a great way to see where your students are at in regards to visual literacy. To add on to what @jasongraham99 mentioned, you can allow for inquiry and in groups and do an I see/I think /I wonder activity. After working Gr6 to do a PSA and not scaffolding enough prior to the final assignment, I think I will also use the…[Read more]

    Hi Debra,
I’m looking for a way to organize my professional information as well as information i would like to share with teachers at my school for reference. Google Sites would be ideal, but since I live in China, we have to avoid anything Google :-(. I was thinking Weebly for my information. Perhaps when this is up I will ask you for some advise…[Read more]

    • Thank you for the comment! I have used Weebly but it sounds like I need to update the link. Weebly is great. I also linked the site to google analytics you can get a lot of free data on who is looking at your site. Good luck! Let me know if you need feedback!

    Hi Sitwat,
Great post about methods that we can empower our students. We not only can empower them by giving them a voice through technology, but we can empower them, as you mention though their skills with using technology. Your last point about creating prosumers of technology really resonates with me. I like that once the students have…[Read more]

    Hi Laura,
I was looking for some ideas to create some awareness with my Upper ES students and Elementary Students. I think your awareness week is a great idea for them to record and start noticing what is around them and think about how or what they would do differently. I think during my digital citizenship unit with my MS students, I might…[Read more]

    Hi Lyndsay,
Similar to your school, we are moving towards a more tech integrated role. I also see myself as a coach for teachers. We however still need a bit more time for the ES to get to a 1:1 program. In the meantime, I attend planning meetings and try to suggest apps for the teachers to use for their various lessons. Some teachers, are…[Read more]

    Hi Sarah,
Thank you! Your post comes at a good time for me. I am currently teaching my students researching skills and as well as Digital Citizenship. I find my students are still not quite familiar with summarizing and are literally copying word for word both when they are writing “notes” and using the computer for research. Using the Rachel…[Read more]

    • Hi Pim
Thanks for your comments. I know how difficult it can be accessing stuff in China.
We use Cornell notes for teaching our Grade 5 students to take notes. They make the notes and identify the big ideas and questions and then they have to summarise. This helps them to put it into their own words.
      This video explains them…[Read more]

    Hello Erin,
I also thought the fair use flow chart was very useful. The biggest challenge I have is that I live in China and the access to the originals of information, data, media, art, music is actually quite hard to get to. For my students they have always gone to the quickest source which is not always the legal source. So this time consuming…[Read more]

    Hi Laura,
Poor Ken Bone is right! I remember right after he made his debut on to our tv screens, everybody was after him. SNL even did a skit with him in it. Ken Bone will never be gone. Like you, I want to create my PLN and the way that I’ve been doing that most consistently is through Twitter. This COETAIL course has also been connecting me…[Read more]

    • I saw the SNL skit – poor guy!

I like your idea of facilitating between ES and MS. And I totally agree that whatever we teach them now will be obsolete by the time they are adults – just look at what we learned in school! I still cringe when some of my 8th grade kids make certain comments – we’ve become quite skilled at deleting those and then…[Read more]

    Hi Jackie,
Great post and your Stories of a Lifetime Project sounds like its going to be a fun and invigorating experience for your students. We live in a world that is shrinking in regards to connections and collaboration. Information is just at our fingertips and so is the ability to share our stories and creativity. You are in fact starting…[Read more]
