  • It took a long long while for this project to finally get done. All the responsibilities of a Technology Integration Coach really took over. But alas the project is done, well I hope so. I had three main goals for […]

  • I talk often about the leveraging of technology in the classrooms at my current school. When I inquire into why this is, we must make sure our students have the foundations to read and write before we can […]

  • Hi Dan,
Just reading your post now and as I start finishing up my own posts for the course, I see that I’m not the only one that is bouncing neither here or there with thoughts on what to write about. I’ve made […]

  • Since the course started last September, I have been thinking about what to do for the final project. Within the year, I have been reading many of the posts in our own Cohort and gotten an idea of that sort of […]

  • After having no devices, our school this year has recently introduced iPads for each classroom in the elementary school. Students still need to share a cart of laptops in the upper elementary school. The 1:1 […]

    Hi Sitwat,
I’ve been reading your post for the last week. I was wondering what sort of tools you would use to collaborate between another teacher. Would this school or teacher be in the same similar time zone? What will you use to introduce or grab the student’s attention for this inquiry unit? I think its great that this is more of a PBL unit. I…[Read more]

    Hi Erin,
Last year I started using SeeSaw in the elementary school. The students would choose their best work and then we created a folder that was labeled “Student Led Conferece” Students were then able to use this folder for PTC nights. This year, we are going to expand our use beyond the classroom. I would like to share the class feed with…[Read more]

    Hi Jennifer,
You are certainly right there are a TON of apps to choose from for various purposes. We are also about to introduce iPads into each classroom next year. This is the first time teachers will have their own iPad in the classrooms. As we are not yet a 1:1 model, the iPads were intended for learning centers and more leveled reading. My…[Read more]

  • I learned about flipped classrooms not too long ago when I was working with some teachers at my previous school. This school was a big school, the infrastructure was ready for the flipped environment, students […]

    Hi Michelle,
You discussed some great ideas there. Coming to the end of the year, I am starting to think of how I can better integrate technology in my school, specifically in the ES. I think having flipped learning stations is a great idea. Also the idea that sending parents an introduction to Technology Integration at the school through our…[Read more]

  • As I go through the readings that were provided for this Unit, I found the one goals that all the types of learning presented (Project-Based Learning, Challenge-Based Learning, Problem-Based Learning) are trying […]

    • Adding Challenge Base Learning is an interesting view at the topic. It is a life skill that all students including ourselves need in todays job market. As I have said to many parents, the tricky thing about being a teacher at this time is that we are trying to prepare students for jobs that do not exist yet. To be able to fit into the future job market and global community students do need to be critical thinkers who can, as you mentioned “… find a solution based on research and if needed making improvements on similar existing solutions. ” The Ted Talk Challenge based learning: Andi Bodeau and Ryan Semans at TEDxBurnsvilleED “https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yv1E6Vth7Uw” talks about students being developers of their curriculum.

Hi Lisa! Yes sure or what about Digital Penpals in the upper years??? Stay in touch. Thanks for your message. COETAIL is an eye opener for me.

    Hi Erin,
Been enjoying your blog posts to my email. Thanks. So like you I have to find a way, and I think it’s great that you had the students choose what outlet they wanted to communicate the project. Not only is it another way to communicate, but once uploaded to Seesaw, for this particular project, perhaps parents can be reassured that the…[Read more]

  • I’ve mentioned before that there had never been a tech integrator at the school I’m currently at. Not only that, we have had some devices, but perhaps the intentionality and purpose of them had not been identified […]

    • Pimm! I didn’t know you were doing COETAIL! I graduated in December 2015. I’m a Tech Coach at my small school also. ..amongst other things. Classes in grades K-4 are using Seesaw. Perhaps we can get some of the class blogs connected to promote collaboration next year!?!

    Hi Brandon,
Thank you for your feedback. I knew there was something “off” about the font size and color. I just could not find the right one. For presentations that do not need a template, I will be using what I learned in this course for the slides.

    Cheers,

    Hi Megan,
Your post has inspired me to plan an integrated unit using Scratch jr. for a narrative with grade 1. I had been hesitant to do so because some of the teachers feel they do not have enough time to learn. When I initially sat down to talk about ideas with the teacher, she then said to me “I think they already know this”, so we will be…[Read more]

    • Hi Pim,
I’m so glad you found my post helpful. I think your first graders will find it a great way to show their learning. I also have used Scratch as a class to retell stories as well and have students create this to really work on beginning, middle and end of stories which I know can be challenging for our younger writers to really have a true s…[Read more]

    Hi Ken,
I think your idea to include some videos into your presentations where appropriate will also make your presentations stick better in one’s mind. In my post, I wrote about an administrator who had a cringeworthy presentation deck that was trying to explain evacuation drills to us. I wonder if he could have summed the whole 24 slide deck…[Read more]
