  • I think a great possibility for my Course 5 project is to create a “ELL Go to Page”, as an Instructional Coach I will have to caters to teachers and students needs as well as assist my ELL peers with […]

Thank you for putting aside your to do list. I used to have a Statistics professor in college that used to say that “if you beat stats hard enough they will confess to anything” and I do believe that is the case. Not only do I agree with everything you say I also know that correlation does not mean causation, and people tend to look for the…[Read more]

I feel the same way as you do! I was a bit glad you posted that, because I know the saying that goes “life is what happens while you are busy making other plans”. This is often times how I feel about myself and connectivism. I guess as educators, and consequently learners, we like to study things and while I do not feel equipped to tackle it all.…[Read more]

Back in 2008, during my masters at Wake Forest, I was a little embarrassed to take my very first “Technology in Education” course… ever! I had a brand new laptop and my teaching world had completely […]

    • Hi Simone

Thank you for sharing your vision for technology. It is encouraging to see that not all people see technology as only a means for them to advance themselves and their national interests.

There are a number of romantic idealists on Twitter, but we have to start somewhere—even if they are only dreams. 🙂

I really admire you for stating all that, I have witnessed some horror stories here in Brazil, where students had to watch these super boring, almost and hour long recorded lessons… with no help whatsoever. The PSL learners (like our ESL in the US) that were able to access the video had no vocabulary whatsoever to even understand the content, so…[Read more]

  • I cannot lie, I am concerned with our present practices in tech with regards to ELL/ESL. There are advantages and disadvantages. But basically it is a whole new step, if you come from a traditional method of […]

You know, you reminded me of something my lower school principal always says. In lower school we do not have homework, just home learning projects on subjects that the students pick out themselves, so often teachers or parents come up to hime and ask him about giving them more “structured” homework so they can go to middle school “better prepared”…[Read more]

I really like the infographics you created about Coetail. I feel like you really got the essence of what the course is about in a very smart way. When I am talking to friends I often struggle with explaining to them what it is and your graphic really nailed it down. I should probably refer to it in the future. Great with with that, and specially…[Read more]

Well, I have been unsatisfied with my old resume […]

  • So, as a challenge to myself I decided to play around with Infographics and the suggested data visualization tools.

    • I like your analysis and review of the infographics. It is definitely not my strong point as a COETAIL grad, but at the time, PIKTOCHART wasn’t even an option. I think I’ll try it out based on your advice.

      Thanks!

I loved how you really seemed to reflect on this matter. I have to say, I have been looking back at my old lesson ppts and I have such a critical eye on them. I too looked back at some of my work to see how I could improve and you are right. I feel that, at least when it comes to parents, some of our meetings is indeed to share facts and report on…[Read more]

Craig, I believe you and I have both been struggling with the same problem. I find that I am taking a lot in, however expressing it into words has been a challenge. Which is funny because we are looking into a lot of as you say it “images are for learning. And selling. And influencing.” It is funny how in order to communicate understanding of…[Read more]

    • Thanks for that Simone, I do find it amazing how powerful the visual can be. And how it has been subtly influencing us subliminally for a very long time. The benefit of what we are learning in CoeTail, and LIFE, is that awareness helps us interpret it’s effect.

As an extension, the use of sound has come into my conscious understanding more…[Read more]

Sharon I loved your offline method, I just walked around counting items on my fingers… But I agree with you “a bullet point for each idea = too many words” indeed! I struggled with the exact same thing! I do think that forcing myself to narrow my slides down to no more than one sentence per slide (personal goal) it did help me keep one main…[Read more]

I know our final project for Course 3 is changing one of our presentations or recreating one, but I have my heart set on a […]

    • We seem to be on the same page as far as past presentation mistakes go. I also fall into the trap of using too many insignificant words. Your improved presentation looks great.
I can see how each slide would provoke some good topics for discussion. The shift toward Presentation Zen is one that will lead to a change in the way we present. I have often relied on bulleted points to lead my lecture but a visual or a few words is really all that is needed.
You should consider trying Google Presentation again when you have some time to explore this program. I found this helpful video that provides some great tips and tricks for some awesome presentations: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RdKuNrGapco.
I look forward to seeing what you post for your final project and your ideas around classroom application. Happy blogging.
