This is a really interesting project.

I think you need a way for users to be able to add infographics themselves. (It will become very tedious for you to do this all by hand.)

I was thinking of the best way to collect them though … social bookmarking, RSS, drive folder, Flipboard … there are a million ways to do this, but I think people…[Read more]

    • I agree with you @thammerlund. My plan isn’t great right now but I don’t really have the skill-set to organize something bigger. Hopefully someone with a lot more know-how (and COETAIL admin privileges) than I will take this idea and run with it. I think that I’m on to something!

    Hi Jocelyn,

I really like your new resume.

Just a thought, I glanced at your resume before reading your post, but if you are looking to get
back into the classroom, what might it look like if you put PYP teacher to the left of Tech Coach below your image?

    Totally agree with you Lulu.

I think one way to make integration authentic is to allow the students to choose their own tools to demonstrate their learning. I know why I have done this (it’s easier for me, or I wanted them to learn how to use something better) but thinking back, I think I could have gauged student learning more effectively had…[Read more]

    • Keeping the computer in student desks is an interesting idea! I guess I never thought of that because I’m such a minimalist and want the students to keep their desks as clean as possible. A cluttered desk drives me crazy and plus the desks are quite small. Nevertheless, I wouldn’t mind giving it a try!

  • Last night we had a fast-paced chat with a number of new participants — it was wonderful to see some new faces. #Coetail chat is a great way to learn how to participate in a Twitter chat.

Keep messing around and keep pushing what you are doing.

I would like to see your Chalk Talk on Paper 53. I am looking for ways to do some Visible Thinking Routines using more technology.

I like the idea of a library Twitter account. That could be a great way of sharing new books, library lessons, pictures from the library, and possibly student book reviews. Very cool idea.

Good luck with your learning journey!

I commend you on taking the COETAIL plunge. I have experienced the same transformational shift in thinking your colleagues who urged you to take the course referred to, and all I can say is — buckle in.

When you get set up, I recommend you to add an About Me page to your blog, as well as a way to get in touch with you on Twitter.

    I am…[Read more]

    • Hi Tom,

I am all buckled in and ready to go! I appreciate your feedback and suggestion on adding an “About Me” page. I have added it to my “To Do” list and will hopefully have that up by the end of the week.

Here’s to a great year learning together,
      Danelle

I agree that technology is redefining this unit for you.

I am interested to see your plan and how everything fits together.

I really like what you did with your visual resume, but I agree that you should somehow change the PD column. When I was reading it, I thought it was for PD you had given since I was looking at the large version on your About Me page and couldn’t see the column titles. You do have the names of the presenters on there though.

    One thing you might…[Read more]

I can’t wait until you publish the link. I am going to share it with our elementary teachers.

I was online before I knew what a digital footprint was, and although I figured it out, I didn’t really try to manage my own footprint until I was in COETAIL. My coworkers and I joke (but it’s no joke) that we are glad we were in college before digital cameras.

Fortunately we can somewhat control our own footprints by creating and sharing content.

    • I agree, so called ‘Generation Z’ are growing up with a new set of rules!
Thanks to COETAIL I’m also learning the importance of how creating and sharing content can help me to manage my own footprint.
      Thanks for the comment Tom!

I think technology offers ELL students a great chance to work on their language skills. I especially like how using voice overs will give the students a chance to listen to themselves and make changes if necessary giving them extra practice.

  • Thomas Hammerlund posted a new activity comment 4 years, 5 months ago

You inspired me to give this a try with my Grade 1-2 class.

    • Awesome! It’s definitely been a challenge to give up the control almost completely, but I think that’s where the best learning occurs, when we get out of the way of our students and allow them to engage in their interests and passions.

I am interested to see what you do for your final project.

If you do the exploration one, how would you integrate library skills and technology skills into the unit?

    • I will be working on the social studies unit and integrating the library skills would involve students selecting and using resources to find infromtion on their subject. I will be working with the IT facilitator and the homeroom teacher to embed technology skills into the unit. Stay tuned 🙂

When I read the blurb for this post on the COETAIL homepage, I thought a collaborative book review site was a great idea – so I hope you make it to the global stage. You might even want to make the jump to opening it up globally after letting your students add their reviews first.

I would definitely promote this in my school to other teachers.…[Read more]

    • Thanks for the comment. My kids are nearly done with the reviews, but still trying to figure out how to get the page started. Not sure anymore if a wiki is the best way, maybe a blog… I will let you know!

  • Thomas Hammerlund posted a new activity comment 4 years, 5 months ago

I have read studies that say students get more out of flipped lessons their own teacher has made. So that is another reason to make your own.

  • Thomas Hammerlund posted a new activity comment 4 years, 5 months ago

This is a really cool project. The only question I can think of is: How many ways do you think your students can currently create a presentation or video?

I ask because if it is many, you could open the project up and let them choose the software instead of limiting them.

This is something I think about a lot since I still shoot in film from time to time. My advice for you, is to not have multiple pictures of the same thing. Be generous with the delete button.

However, I disagree when you say photography is inexpensive. Yes the memory is cheap and you can take more shots, but the bodies and lenses are still…[Read more]

I am teaching a course with elements of MYP Design next year so I found this post very useful and I bookmarked it. I especially like the second two infographics.

    Thanks!

    • Hi Tom,

It’s flattering that you find my reflections useful. Thank you.

The final graphic is made using a stylus on the app Adobe Ideas on the iPad. I quite like it for mapping out my thoughts and ideas.

      Cheers!
