    Hi Morgan,
What a great idea! Honestly, I can’t wait to try this out in my classroom. We’re currently in the middle of the Kindergarten Super Readers unit and it’s just so fitting for where we are right now. The students are familiar with Seesaw, and with a little planning, they will LOVE teaching their peers and family about their ‘super…[Read more]

    Chris!
Wow, well done!! I’m so happy for you!
Honestly, as a kindergarten teacher who’s heavily allergic math, I wasn’t sure I would be able to understand your project. But, your video was so clear and so organized. The successes and challenges you faced were relatable (in different scopes) even in kindergarten. We all want to see and assess…[Read more]

Fantastic job, Joel!! I thought about using Adobe Spark at the start, too.. but, I didn’t I could pull it off. Well, done! I loved the images and the pace of your video.. it didn’t feel like 10+ minutes at all (and, the music was awesome, too!). You’ve done so much with Travelling Tale and I’m so happy for you and all your success with this…[Read more]

    • Hi Nicky,
Thanks so much for your comments. Travelling Tales has been a great journey ( no pun intended!) and I sincerely thank you for being one of the risk takers who offered to jump on board for the first travelling tale. It was a great experience and my class loved connecting with yours and Nicola’s throughout Bob the Big White Shark. It…[Read more]

Thank you, Magali! It’s definitely tricky collaborating across the grade level, but connecting also brought us close together as a group. Good luck with your grade level projects!

Thank you, Nadine! It’s always nice to receive positive feedback!
I would love to collaborate with other classes around the world. I tried to advertise it a little through Twitter, but I didn’t get too many takers (but that’s probably because of my short list of contacts). I’ll be sure to contact your friend, @Kacey_Molloy. Thank you!!

  • This final project started off with a focus on the value of responsibility with kindergarten students. It required collaborative work through the use of technology across the grade level with 6 kindergarten […]

    • Wow!
What a thoughtfully and meaningfully organized project.
I absolutely adore the presentation model you created with your original drawings and creative use of engaging the audience as you explained the process. I was constantly engaged in your video.
It would be interesting to try next year, now that you have one year of doing this project already done, if you could send it out to other Kindergarten classes who would like to create their own Responsibility books and share them. I wonder if your students would find similarities or differences between other International schools. If you are looking for a great Kindergarten teacher who is already strong at collaboration and technology, then tweet out to my friend and past colleague; @Kacey_Molloy. I bet she would be totally interested in your project.
      Congratulations again!

    • Hello Nicky,
      What a great project!
I really like the idea of working at grade level!
That’s a excellent idea that I’d like to try with my colleagues!
      Bravo!
      Magali

    • Brilliant job Nicky.
Your project gives the children in your class a voice to others – I think that they finished this project with the idea that their ideas matter. Well done!
Your project video is really well put together. I really like the mix of pictures, drawings, and videos…and the students reflections are great. “we learn more”
I would be happy to collaborate between our classes on something else in the future…keep me posted!
Thanks for sharing it with the world. Your friend in Luxembourg!
      Cheers,
      Joel

    • What an amazing topic and project!
Responsibility at any age level is big, and to start at the lowest age level is the best thing we as adults can do. I loved the way you brought all this together in your final project. I would definitely love to be part of your global project and I’m sure so many other teachers like me at various grade levels would jump forward at this too. It could turn into a great teaching and learning experience, not just for the teachers but the students as well.
This could be a great global project, then your goal would be truly redefined – reaching out across borders and teaching through technology, PEDAGOGY BEFORE TECHNOLOGY!
Congratulations Nicky on an excellent presentation!

    • Hey Nicky –
Wow – this was fantastic! I just loved how you explained the entire thought process of this in a unique way, and I enjoyed seeing the student work. Your reflection in the middle was really honest and showed how you built on what you had done in order to go further with the redefinition aspect – you nailed it!
A wonderful job well done. Best and warmest wishes to you!

  • At the start of course 5, I had not expected that we would have a community engagement component to the project. In fact, it intimidated me a little because didn’t where to start.

That would be so awesome! That’s the whole point of it all.. We want to teach.. But, we want to learn from your class(es) and what’s important to you. I hope it works out.. Would love to hear from your kiddos!

    • Hi Nicky,
I love this. We are currently in a Wellbeing Unit and are talking about hygiene and hand washing. Work in this way is so purposeful and meaningful. It would be great for our children to watch your video and maybe make their own in reply or maybe a video about another element of hygiene. I will float it at our planning meeting later and let you know.
      Thanks for sharing,
      Cheers, Joel

Welcome to Coetail! I get it.. I’m in course 5 now, but still struggling to step out of the role of a lurker and actively work on my PLN. But, this is a start and I know we’re all headed the right way.

What a great idea for early childhood! It seems so do-able and relevant. I love how you are guiding your students to reflect upon their impact on the Earth and their power to lead to change! You’re not only teaching topic, but you’re getting your students to live it! Awesome!

    Hi Erin,
I loved your blog post on ‘messing around’ and I totally agree! I feel fortunate to have a block of free choice time each day in my kindergarten classroom as a space for students to partake in ‘messing around’. It’s through this time that they play and learn most authentically. In addition to play and the art/invention centers, the iPad…[Read more]

    Dea Rahila,
Thank you for the link and all your positive comments! I wished my parents were more involved on the blog sight so that they would see all the fantastic projects their children are engaged in. I’m not sure the community has quite caught on.. but, we’ll keep trying.

    Good luck with everything,
    Nicky

    Dear Lauren,
I agree, it’s easy to assume that students know what they’re doing just because they have access to technology at home. Taking the time at the start to teach responsibility can make all the difference in a school year.
Great Minecraft project!! It’s engaging because it’s based on something they know and love. It also addresses…[Read more]

    Chris,
Thank you for your comments! I think it’s hard as a teacher to setup the games, but like you said, there are so many benefits. And, we , as teachers, just need to start changing the way think and create lessons. It’s hard, but I just recently finished up an engineering unit and saved a week for ‘engineering challenges’. I just make a…[Read more]
